Rainy Day Play
East Bay Rainy Day Spots
Check out our tried and true indoor activities for rainy days (or just for fun) in the East Bay! Some are outside of “East Bay” boundaries but needed to be included on the list because they are worth the drive.
OMCA in Oakland
Fun museum for adults and kids but their recently renovated kid area was a hit for my 2 and 4 year old. They have a large train table, imaginary play sections and more. Adult tickets are $19 and kids 12 years old and younger are free. EBT card holders can get a ticket for $1.
Cal Academy in San Francisco
You can spend hours at Cal Academy in Golden Gate park. Our favorite is the aquarium. Ticket prices vary based on day/time. See website for more info.
Five Little Monkeys Toy Store
There are a few locations around the Bay (Albany, Berkeley, Burlingame, Corte Madera, Lafayette, Novato, Pleasanton). Many locations have toys to test or a small play area.
Rosie the Riveter Visitor Center in Richmond
Free to the public and a hidden gem in Richmond. Information is geared towards older kids (Elementary age and older) but my younger children liked exploring too. Make sure to grab a Junior Ranger packet at the entrance.
Legoland Discovery Center in Milpitas
Another great kid space worth the drive. They have areas that will interest a variety of ages of kids. Great for LEGO lovers and any kid that loves to build and have fun! Tickets starting at $26.99. Buy in advance to save money.
Chuck E. Cheese
We love the newly renovated Fairfield location!
Lawrence Hall of Science in Berkeley
A favorite for us! So much to see and do. You could easily spend the whole day exploring their different rooms and exhibits. Tickets $20/guest 3 and older.
The Playhouse in Brentwood
A wonderful indoor playspace for toddlers. Tickets are $15/child and adult for a 1.5 hour session. Make sure to check their website for events and classes too!
Gymboree in Lafayette
This is my go to place for babies/young crawlers. Our favorite has always been their music class. It is also a wonderful space for mixed age siblings. They provide a safe space for play and have wonderful teachers and classes. You’ll want to check out all their options as there are many! Single visit classes start at $29 or buy larger packs or memberships for discounts.
Jelly Belly Factory in Fairfield
We are lucky to have the Jelly Belly Factory here in the Bay! Plus they offer self guided tours. We recommend going on a weekday so you can see jelly bellies being made while you tour! Make sure to taste test some new flavors after too. Tour is $7/adults and $3/kids.
Spirited Play Lab in San Ramon
This is a wonderful and inclusive play space made for kids 8 and younger. Memberships start at $69/month and you can do a free trial class to see if you like it!
Swings and Wings in Alameda
A fun place for kids and toddlers to play! They have a bounce house, swing, trains and more. They also offer private play, birthday parties, preschool and more. For drop in play prices start at $13.75 for crawlers and $16.50 for kids. Adults are free with child.
Skipolini’s in Walnut Creek
Skipolini’s is a pizza restaurant but they have a play place in the back! It’s the perfect spot to meet up with friends, enjoy the lunch special and let your kids play.
Luv2Play in Dublin
A large indoor play space with a fun climbing structure and dedicated spots for crawlers, toddlers and older kids. They also offer an eating spot and food options. Prices start at $15.99.
Westwind Drive in (Sacramento, San Jose, Concord)
Make sure to check out the drive in for family friendly movies. This way you can bundle up, get out of your house but stay warm in the comfort of your own car!
Palo Alto Junior Museum and Zoo
I was very impressed with all the Junior Museum and Zoo had to offer for our young family! Many different science and STEAM inspired play options as well as a small outdoor area with some animals. Adults and kids are $10 and you need to buy your ticket online in advance.
